Gathering of the clan After our meeting for Irene's birthday in Ramsgate, we decided that we needed another opportunity to meet, see trees and paperwork, and talk. So Lorraine took care of the invitations, Cassie & Selwyn provided the venue, and fifty-five of us (we think) descended on the Rectory in the middle of a heatwave. Food kept arriving with the guests; Mark was a wonderful maitre d', gathering contributions and replenishing the buffet as the levels of food went down; Lorraine went round with her laptop, updating information; we all had badges (of course) for identification purposes; and it was very good. We were delighted to welcome the descendants of five of the ten children of Alfred and Alice, from whom we're all descended - click here to see details of all ten. We're in touch with six of those branches; sadly, John (Henry's son) had departed just two days before for a holiday in Canada, or he'd have made up the set! Here are just a few of the photos - of which, of course, there were many. Click on the thumbnails below to see the full version; and for notes on downloading the photograph for yourself, click here. If anybody would like all Cassie's photographs of the day on CD, this is easily arranged - please e-mail me to request. These are the descendants (and their partners) of five out of the ten of the children of Alfred William Nicholson and Alice Eastland: ... and this is everybody! Selwyn took this out of an upper window, and we stood (more or less) in the order in which we appear on the tree! |
